Walk for Prems : Fundraising Auction.

A fabulous group of handmaidens have joined with Whirly Gig Kids to have a fundraising auction on Facebook on this Wednesday 16th October, with all proceeds to go to Walk for Prems and Life's Little Treasures Foundation. Life's Little Treasures is an Australian organisation providing support to families of children born sick or premature. The walk itself is on Sunday 27th October in all Australian capital cities (registrations close 17th Oct).

Scoot over the the Whirly Gig Kids FB page to see the gorgeous items on offer for girls, boys and Mums and show some support to a great and worthy cause.

Farm Days: Night Sprayer or Nitro Swathing

Nathan refers to it as the Night Sprayer, as dusk was turning into night when Uncle A took them (and me, how lucky was I?!) for a spin around the paddock in it. Highlight of the day!

Two boys waiting excitedly for the call to come and climb up.

And two thoroughly please boys at the end of the ride, one whom thought the dusk was on fire outside! (excuse the totally crap photo, it was a bit dark)

The Nitro is not something I grew up with on the farm. It's one of those grasshopper-ish things, elevated metres off the ground and has amazingly nifty arms which fold out for spraying metres and metres across a paddock.  It can have the swather (or swathing? terminology) comb off the harvester put on it and to swath the canola.

And swathing is...? Some of you may ask...I'm certainly no expert so here's Keegan's description: chops it off then feeds it along the choppers into the middle and makes a nice straight row in the middle. There are sure to be a bazillion YouTube videos like these here , here and here. (P.S. One of these is a locally made video)

Someone also got a little loud play in the big truck earlier in the day. The boys especially have have had such fun mucking about around in puddles, watching what happens in the shed, being a constant source of chatter (such that the radio becomes redundant) and general pests to their uncles, whom they adore to pieces!

This Moment.

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

Stealing a moment to follow along with Soule Mama today.

Farm Days: The Changing Seasons

I took this photograph, to compare it to one I took

The puddle has dried up and the canola has lost it's blooms.

Harvest is starting!

The grey wintery sky has turned into that luscious blue of never ending summer days.

The trees, well they are just as they were.

Farm Days: Treasure Hunt

When the puddles dry up and boredom strikes (again) what do you turn to next? We did a treasure hunt!

This is the second one we have done these holidays. It was pretty basic and just told them what to look for next.

The starting clue...

lead to a birdbath...to a potplant then a platypus...

...running around to the back yard...to find an old dozer...

...clues in a wheelbarrow with herbs and ...lemons...

 ...under a rock...

...the final clue 'tap' was trickier than  I thought it would be. There were 4 or 5 taps that the treasure could have been hidden near, but they still didn't see it...

...until I sent their sister to get her Smarties!

They couldn't have done it without her!

The first treasure hunt was a bit of a fizzer, where I sent the boys off to collect various items from around the farm - wheat, canola, wool, gravel, leaves. Keegan wasn't in the mood to do at the time,  for some six-year old reason, but was totally into everything that Nathan and I collected afterwards, like it was the neatest treasure of all time.  So, I thought this second clue-d hunt was a sure winner. But, apparently I didn't stash enough treasure along the way. My bad. Perhaps we'll do another one this week, though the distance to the shops to get more 'treats' may limit our excitement once again.

Farm Days...Tuesday

Today, we went bike riding in our gumboots. It was sooo much fun!

(Nathan is saying "this hat doesn't like being on my head")

 Need I say more?!!

I wonder what we'll get up to tomorrow...
